Chicago Fire Season 6 needs to give Connie the best send-off ever

Last week, news broke that DuShon Brown had died at the age of 49. Fans want to make sure she’s honored in style when it comes to Chicago Fire Season 6.

It’s always hard when a favorite cast member leaves, but when one dies it’s extremely hard. Our favorite firehouse secretary, Connie, will sadly depart the family after actress DuShon Brown died at the age of 49. It was a shock for all fans, but everyone had the same thing to say: Connie needs the best send off ever.

This is a character who has stolen the hearts of fans. She may only appear now and then and may not have a main role in the station, but she is the soul of that firehouse. With just a look, we know what she’s thinking throughout the episodes and she’s able to even take Chief Boden down a peg or two–not many can say they’re able to do that.

More from NBC

There is nobody who can replace Connie in that firehouse. While they’ll need another secretary, nobody can be the constant presence that Connie has been, even when she’s not on screen. You know she’s up to something behind the scenes somewhere, helping to keep the firehouse run in the most efficient way possible.

It’s time to give her a send-off

Fortunately, Chicago Fire Season 6 is in a position to give our favorite secretary a good send-off. While it won’t happen on the actual screen, there is the ability to write in her character’s death. This will give the fans and the cast a chance to physically mourn the loss of Brown fully.

Think of it like when 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter included the shocking death of John Ritter in the series. The character had a shock heart attack at the store, writing in the death and allowing everyone to mourn the actor’s death on and off screen. This set up the storyline for the rest of the series, as Kate became a widow and the children dealt with the loss of their father (and likely a father figure behind the camera). As a fan of the show and of the actor (long before the show) my heart broke throughout those earlier episodes after Ritter’s death, but it was necessary to fully grieve the loss of a fan-favorite.

While the death of Connie wouldn’t be the same catalyst as 8 Simple Rules, it will be important moving forward. It will be far more sensible than just writing the character out or never mentioning her again. After all, Connie would not leave that firehouse. They are her family just as she is family to them!
