4. Anastasia

Released in 1997, Anastasia took the world by storm. Loosely based on the real Anastasia, this takes the legend to another level. In the movie, we watch Anya, Dimitri and Vlad try to prove she is the real Grand Duchess. The film had a stellar cast, excellent songs and a lot of visually stunning scenes.

A lot of people forget about Anastasia because of Disney. Disney decided to solve that problem and bought 20th Century Fox, acquiring the rights to the movie. Before I get ahead of myself, let’s talk about why Anastasia was a surprisingly feminist children’s movie.

Besides being strong and independent, Anya was sarcastic and witty, never shy to crack a joke or snap at Dimitri when he’s being annoying. She was incredibly savvy and quick to think on her feet, probably due to being an orphan. Ultimately, she never gave up who she was even when she was reunited with her grandmother.

With Disney now owning the rights to Anastasia, it’s the perfect time to reboot or at least, revive the film. This time, they should spin it into a TV series or even, a live-action movie. The series would hopefully mirror Tangled: The Series so we could see the characters we love but have them telling a different story each episode.
