After six successful seasons, the popular reality series Jersey Shore has returned in a new format with the family vacation MTV needed.

More from Reality TV

Jersey Shore may have started off by bringing together a few wildly unique 20 somethings in a Real World style series, but despite the party premise it’s proven to entertain in more ways than you might expect. Now, several years after becoming a mainstream presence in pop culture, the cast is back to offer a look back into their lives and reassemble the group for some well deserved mayhem in Miami.

With that being said, here’s our favorite 5 things we learned from the special two-hour premiere of Jersey Shore Family Vacation.

5. Thursdays are Jerzdays.

Having been off the air for six years, it was interesting to see the cast reunited and now viewers seemingly want more. The crew is ready to prove that they are still as entertaining as ever and if “six guidos in a house with no power” wasn’t enough to draw you back in I just don’t know what to say. We can’t wait to take on more Jersey Shore antics with the OG cast on a weekly basis again, in the spirit of adulthood, necessary instances of immature regression and reality TV family – it’s just about damn time.

4. The new and improved Situation.

Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino wasn’t exactly known for his kindness or humility when Jersey Shore first aired, often becoming a central figure in conflict with the roommates. He had problems with women, men and even with a wall at one point, but now Mike has been through legal woes and is a changed man. Still facing a sentence for tax evasion, Mike has come back and is surprisingly candid about his fears with what could happen. In addition, Mike is recently sober and though his surroundings are concerning I have high hopes for the man who puts the ‘M’ in ‘MVP.’

3. Deena, the unsung hero.

Deena may have come in later than the rest of the cat, but the self-proclaimed meatball has quickly mellowed her wild ways as a married woman. She still manages to heavily drink of course, but her drama tends to be of the real life variety from defending the reputation of absent roommate Sammi Sweetheart or voicing her pain about the loss of her father. By the time Deena poured herself a rather large glass of wine unsure of how much she would require, I knew it was good to have her back on our televisions.

2. Sammi Sweetheart continues to bless us.

What we thought was the never-ending saga of Sam and Ron has come to a close because Sammi chose to not return for the vacation season with her fellow cast members. Sammi went through a lot in her stint on the series, experiencing a very unhealthy relationship and rocky relationships with the others but she always managed to shine and entertain. Years after, memes and clips were actively shared on social media that provided iconic soundbites with the sound of her screaming at Ron, describing herself as “the sweetest bitch you’ll ever meet” and countless GIF worthy moments. While her presence is desperately missed by viewers, her roommates and oddly enough Ronnie, we had the brief pleasure of enjoying the inclusion of Sammi-doll who was depicted quoting the reality television queen. We miss you Sammi, maybe next season you’ll grace our screens again? And in case it wasn’t clear, Team Sammi forever.

1. They may have grown up, but some things never change.

Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing Jenni and Nicole as mother’s, Mike being sober and Sammi leaving behind a bad boyfriend, but when alcohol hits their systems we see the Jersey Shore we loved. Seeing the cast as grown-ups developing after being on such a platform proves they were (mostly) able to develop but it doesn’t mean they can’t have a little fun and fall into bushes from time to time. At a point in time where news is dreadfully depressing, who thought something like the comfort of our favorite Jersey personalities were a breath of fresh air. For that I say, bring on more Jersey Shore MTV – we could use it.
