Is [spoiler]’s death permanent in Avengers: Infinity War?
By Sandy C.
Avengers: Infinity War did what it promised, take several of our favorite heroes. But are there deaths permanent? Particularly [spoiler]’s?
If you haven’t seen Infinity War in theaters yet, major spoilers ahead! Seriously. Look away now.
Before Thanos’ big moment, the scene most comic book fans were anticipating, Thanos claimed several lives. Thanks to comic book story lines, Avengers 4 set photos, and upcoming movies, however, we know many of the vanishing heroes will return. But what about those who died before the final act? The one I’m most concerned about is Gamora.
Thanos learns that in order to posses the Soul Stone, someone he loves must die. And there’s really only one person he’s ever loved, his daughter Gamora. So he kills her by throwing her off a cliff. However, it’s a given that Gamora will return. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for sometime in 2020, James Gunn is directing once again. Gamora is simply too important. Honestly, I was expecting Nebula or Mantis to go. But while Mantis vanished with the snap, Nebula remained.

We know Avengers 4 will see the remaining heroes find a way to travel back in time and undo the genocide. Just how far back? Enough to safe Gamora and everyone who turned to ashes. So rest easy, Spider-Man and Black Panther will be back!
Spider-Man 2 Untitled drops next summer, July 5, 2019. There’s no date yet for the Black Panther sequel.
Others who vanished include Drax, Groot, Bucky, Sam/Falcon, Wanda, Peter Quill, and Doctor Strange.
Next: Why isn't [spoiler] in Avengers: Infinity War?
As for the deaths before the snap, Heimdall, Loki, and Vision, we’re not sure. If the Avengers want to prevent Thanos from getting the Tesseract (and save all the Asgardians) Loki would be safe along with Heimdall. It wouldn’t be too surprising if Loki returned. He’s done it before. Thanos did say “no resurrections this time,” after killing him, though, and the character wouldn’t really serve a purpose unless there’s a fourth Thor movie. Thor and Loki did make a great team in Thor: Ragnarok, so we wouldn’t entirely be against his return. But would it be too much?
Next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
Avengers: Infinity War is playing in theaters.
