3. He looks like a young Lando

This is easily the shallowest reason on the list, but it’s true. One of the reasons why Donald Glover makes such a great Lando is his looks. Compared to how Lando looked in the original trilogy, Glover has nailed it.

His hair looks similar and so does his facial hair. Despite the change in color, his outfit looks incredibly similar, too. The two also share a similar build as well so it’s hard not to make note of those incredible similarities. Even though it’s a completely different actor, he looks eerily similar to a young Billy Dee Williams. I would give kudos to Donald Glover but that’s just what he looks like so it was spot-on casting.

If anything, it proves how committed the Solo casting director was, because Alden Ehrenreich looks like a young Harrison Ford. However, casting someone who looked like Lando is a lot more challenging.

Williams had a certain look and confidence in him so finding the perfect actor was key. It was all about how confident they looked and how cool they were. Donald Glover is the eptimote of coolness and confidence. If you look at a pic of the two side-by-side, then there’s no mistaking why they picked Glover.
