In the second episode of Colony season 3, the Bowman family finally makes contact with the resistance. Meanwhile, back in LA, Broussard is learning more about our hosts.

This episode of Colony starts by giving us information that our key players don’t have, which is unusual for the show. We see Helena (Ally Walker) being woken up and taken to a bunker. She’s informed that the hosts’ enemies had three ships get through and that the factory in the area Helena is responsible for has been destroyed with no survivors. She is shocked that the enemy forces have arrived saying that the hosts told them they had years to prepare. It’s expected that the battle will spill onto Earth and it’s coming soon.

The fact that we’re learning this now is important. It seems like a guarantee that we’re going to see this at some point this season. This does further explain the ship we saw going down in the first episode of the season as well. Colony is good at hiding things from us which means that there is something bigger likely on the horizon if they are telling us this now.

Broussard

We finally catch up with Broussard. Remembering that he stayed behind in LA, we find out what he’s been doing. He has moved into the police station where Will worked and has stacks of shredded paper that he’s piecing together. During the day he sweeps the streets and checks houses for signs of life or information. He appears to be the only person in the area. Drones are still checking the streets, however.

More from Drama

We learn that he’s part of a network that is rescuing people and moving them to other areas and he checks in daily at the same time. We see him go through two or three days and on the third one, the dispatcher talks to him. She starts by pointing out that he’s the lonely over there and it slowly evolves to flirting.

Signs of life

The next day while he’s in a house he runs into a lady and her son. After a few tense moments, she finally allows him to explain that he can get her out of Los Angeles.

She comes with him back to the office but she says she wants to get outside of the walls. Broussard talks her down by saying she doesn’t want to be out there with a kid. She then tells him that her husband was with them until a drone killed him.

Later, the lady is still suspicious but decides to ask him a few questions about his past experiences with getting people out. His answers seem to satisfy her and she agrees to go to the San Fernando bloc.

Late that night, Broussard takes them to a tunnel that was hidden under a house. He gives a signal and initially doesn’t receive one back. He’s about to leave when, finally, he gets the signal from the other end of the tunnel and sends the pair on their way.

Meeting Noa

When we catch up with the Bowmans, they are sitting in the woods not trusting the area Noa chose for the meeting. Katie (remember Bram made her question who was in charge) volunteers to go ahead with Bram despite Will’s hesitation.

While those three handle the exchange, Snyder is helping the younger kids craft his identity as their uncle. Obviously, he doesn’t want the resistance to know who he actually was.

The train

When Noa shows up she’s completely on edge. She confirms that they do have the gauntlet but is surprised to see that they have kids. Noa takes them to the train tracks where she stops a train and tells them they have 60 seconds to board. When they ask how they know when to get off she simply tells them: “they’ll find you.”

On the train, Snyder is uncomfortable and tells them that getting on the train was a bad idea. They open a crate on the train and realize it’s filled with food and headed for Seattle. They debate if they should get off briefly before Will finally ends that debate.

When the train stops they are greeted by a group that flashes lights in their face, blinding them. They ask a few questions to make sure they’ve found the right people before confirming that they have the gauntlet. The leader of this crew is Vincent and he is surprised that they really do have the gauntlet. He asks Gracie a few questions before deciding that they’re safe and leading them on what he promises will be a long walk.

Bad news in LA

Back at the office, Broussard continues piecing together documents when he hears a noise. It’s the dispatcher from earlier but they’ve never met until now. She tells him that the little boy told her how to find him. Apparently, somebody followed their pickup crew and found their safe house. She says that her team and the passengers are gone.

She has a gash on her arm that she stitches up herself and tells Broussard she used to be a doctor. After explaining everything, she tells him that she wants to go to the resistance camp up North. She alludes to wanting him to come with her. Broussard then tells her that she can stay and help him piece together what the hosts left behind. He makes a reference to the puzzle women of Germany who are still piecing together leftover Stasi documents that were shredded when the Berlin wall fell. He tells her that based on what he’s found so far, the rendition was just the beginning. They plan to build a bioweapon in LA but that the first step is repopulating the bloc.

Dispatch then tells Broussard that this has already happened in Seattle. The resistance had been sending out messages about it and she says that they need to go to the resistance with this information.

The Resistance camp

Along the way back, Will gets a quick moment to speak with Vincent alone and Vincent warns him to watch his back. He says that things get political and Will already doesn’t like what he’s walking into.

They meet another group outside the gates that checks them for electronics. Snyder quickly hides the button he used to call in the previous raid and avoids detection. Once inside the camp, we learn that Vincent was told not to go pick up the Bowmans. He wants to take the gauntlet to their leader but the other guy stops him, saying that he doesn’t want to speak with him now since he disobeyed orders. Will and Katie share a look as it is clear things are not going to go smoothly here.

Leaving LA

Broussard agreed to help the dispatcher get out of LA and they go to a gate expecting some resistance. However, when they enter it becomes quickly apparent that there is nobody guarding the gate anymore. The episode ends with them casually strolling out of the Los Angeles bloc.

What’s next?

The next episode appears to be more centered on the Bowmans. They are going to learn more about the camp they are in and apparently they aren’t going to like it. The rules are strict and one of them makes a reference to it feeling like they’re back in a colony. After all this time waiting for them to get to The Resistance, it’s going to be difficult to accept The Resistance not being good for them after all. It will be interesting to see how they navigate the situation, especially with their kids there with them.

Colony returns next Wednesday at 10/9 Central on USA Network.
