Days before leading up to the royal wedding between American actress Meghan Markle and Britain’s Prince Harry, Lifetime is airing the highly anticipated movie, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance.

Appearing on the podcast, When Harry Met Meghan, Meredith Finn, the executive producer of the Lifetime movie, discussed what viewers should expect. She explained how they found the perfect leads, and what the theme of the movie is, all without giving away any spoilers.

“Bubble of love” around Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

The executive producer explains at the the base of the movies is the “bubble of love around this couple.”

More from Drama

The royal family, which includes Kate Middleton, Prince William, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, are all shown being very positive in their response to the couple.

Yet, the movie does show the various royal family members warning the lovestruck couple that they need to understand the strict responsibilities that go with being in the royal family.

Finn explains that this is really a modern relationship, and because Meghan is marrying into the royal family, there is “a real conflict.” The royals want to prepare her for this life.

Not highbrow like The Crown

Meredith Finn defined Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance as “more romance than rom-com.” At the core of this movie is a couple falling in love.

She believes this story is far more interesting than the romance of William and Kate, as the two had met in school and it was a long relationship. With Harry and Meghan, both were well-known people, and they had to find ways to be together in order to fall in love.

The trailer shows the couple falling into bed, and Finn does confirm that there will be sex scenes in the movie. She explains that a lot of people who watch The Crown will most likely watch this movie, but this is more behind the scenes than The Crown.

Roast Chicken

Meredith promises that if you hope to see a roasted chicken “you won’t be disappointed.”

Royal fans may recall that after the couple announced their engagement, they were asked how Prince Harry popped the question. The Suits actress explained that they were in their kitchen, “roasting chicken.”

The proposal surely promises to be a tender and emotional moment.

Fodder for story

How did they get the fodder for the romantic story of Meghan and Harry? Finn explained that all of the creatives soaked in every single documentary, interview, article, or book on the couple, allowing them free reign to peruse even gossip magazines during their workday.

In addition, there are some royal insiders working on the script. Co-writer Scarlett Lacey also writes for the E! show The Royals. Her father, Robert Lacey, is a historian for The Royals and a consultant and fact checker for The Crown.

Well cast

Finn credits their excellent casting crew for finding the right actors to portray the couple. They cast in New York, London, Vancouver and Los Angeles. Although they saw “hundreds of people” that looked like both Meghan and Harry, they were first looking for good actors and chemistry.

They fell in love with actress Perisa Fitz-Henley because she had Meghan’s “warmth.”

As for ginger Murray Fraser, the actor that was cast as Harry was quite a discovery. They saw him on a tape from London, and they felt he was the “sexy” Harry that they were looking for the role.

The actress who portrays Princess Diana, Bonnie Soper, is “so good” that Finn reveals that Super was “born to play this role.” She explained that ”we got emotional” during the Princess Diana flashbacks, and certainly viewers will as well.

Will the movie show the Queen watching Suits?

Although there is a promise of corgis, the dogs that are synonymous with Queen Elizabeth, the movie will not show the Queen watching Suits, the program Meghan starred in for seven seasons. Yet, there will be a discussion of the USA show which could certainly be humorous.

What won’t we see?

While the courtship of Harry and Meghan is the focus of Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, Finn does reveal that “You don’t see the wedding.” Instead, the movie will end with a real-life montage of the royal couple.

Clearly excited for the movie, Finn hopes that fans will “love the film.”
