Disney and Lucasfilm are too focused on Star Wars characters like Han Solo who do not require spin-offs. What about the new characters we still know nothing about like Supreme Leader Snoke?

Disney is currently dropping the ball on one of the best opportunities they have which are to create new material with the current saga, The new series embraces a lot of the old, but when are we going to stretch beyond what came before? Personally, it seems like it’s time to embrace the future of Star Wars and reach beyond the stars, with a spin-off for Snoke.

A week or so ago, Hidden Remote’s Rebecca Mills wrote a piece about how maybe it’s time for fans to move on. In the piece, she talks about the fandom and their inability to let go of traditional canon. So here is my solution for some of these issues. Start branching off the new characters. Focus on the future, starting with Supreme Leader Snoke.

Here are my reasons. From here SPOILERS for The Last Jedi will follow:

#1 The Snoke backlash

One of the biggest complaints about The Last Jedi was the unpredictable fate of Snoke in the sequel. The frustrations were understandable considering all the theories that were being formed for several years. Leaving people hanging to form their own conclusions gives the audience too many expectations that inevitably will never be filled.

All this said, there are still many people who are curious about his backstory, so this is a concept worth exploring. Plus, it might silence the angry fan base who are seething for answers.

#2 The story has endless possibilities

One of the things that I hope Disney decides to do is explore different genres for Star Wars. With Rogue One, Disney gave us an actual war film and took the story into new territory. Han Solo is said to be a heist film but most of us are still waiting to see if it is any good.

Disney can do something they have never done before and make a film about just a bad guy. Not like Revenge of the Sith, where a good guy slowly turns evil. I mean like a space version of Scarface where the bad guy slowly rises to power. Plus, who better than Andy Serkis to give such a story depth and complexity?

Snoke has so many mysteries with his facial deformities and such that his backstory can be fleshed out in a fascinating manner on-screen. There are numerous questions that can be answered with satisfaction if put in the right hands. Which brings me to my next category.

#3 Andy Serkis can direct!

Today, we got our first glimpse into Mowgli– which is a scarier version of Kipling’s version of The Jungle Book. The film is also directed by Andy Serkis and it looks absolutely amazing. If you have yet to see the footage, check out the stunning trailer below!

Giving Serkis the power to not only flesh his own performance of Snoke out as well as develop his section of the universe would make for fascinating cinema. It’s not a guarantee that this concept would work but I’d rather see Kathleen Kennedy take more risks than keep putting their faith in tested characters and directors. Andy Serkis has a great attention to detail with performances and he would knock this out of the park.
