Here are five things the producers of the Arrowverse could do to get the franchise back on track.

Aside from a few remaining episodes Supergirl, the Arrowverse has wrapped its 2017-18 season. Overall, this was a lot of compelling moments and individual episodes but this was not a great year for the franchise.

Arrow spent the season tearing down its hero to dispiriting effect results. The Flash tried to marry the lighthearted fun of its first year with dourness of its later seasons and the stylistic fusion produced mostly positive results. Supergirl tested Kara (Melissa Benoist) as a hero and as a person and the show has been more engrossing as a result. And Legends of Tomorrow enjoyed its best season yet by embracing absurdity and by stressing character over plot.

Despite being largely enjoyable, the four series that make up the Arrowverse showed a lot of room for improvement this past season. The main problem with the franchise is that it has drifted away from the qualities that made it so enjoyable just a few years ago. Namely, there been a shift in tone and growing disconnected that has made the four superhero series feel less fun and engaging. But if the Arrowverse producers make a few key changeups, the franchise could be flying high again as early as next season.
