In the Season 4 Finale of The Flash, Barry Allen’s long-fought battle with DeVoe finally reached its climax. Barry had to risk being assimilated by DeVoe but the risk was well worth the win.

To bring an end to Clifford DeVoe’s mad plans of world domination, Barry Allen had to risk everything yet again on The Flash. He’s risked his life countless times before but this time was different; this time, Barry had to risk losing his mind altogether.

With Marlize’s help, Team Flash came to the conclusion that someone would have to enter DeVoe’s mind to stop him. At that point, Barry took the initiative, sat in the Thinking Chair, and entered DeVoe’s mind.

Inside, Barry Allen found himself in a world similar to his own. It was here that Barry confronted DeVoe several times, failing in every attempt to subdue him. Luckily for Barry, he ran into a familiar face while inside of DeVoe’s mind: Ralph Dibny.

Apparently, Ralph’s mind survived being absorbed by DeVoe. Team Flash assumed Ralph’s consciousness was erased during the event but as it turns out, Ralph was locked away within the recesses of DeVoe’s mind.

Ralph Dibny survives his ordeal under DeVoe’s control

When Barry and Ralph first meet, Barry is thrilled to see his old friend. He’s under the presumption that Ralph is stuck but Barry brings him along for the rest of his adventure whilst inside of DeVoe’s mind.

Shortly after their reunion, DeVoe shows up to put Barry and Ralph in their places. DeVoe succeeds in outmaneuvering both Barry and Ralph with ease and almost succeeds in completely assimilating Barry’s mind. The good news is that Ralph had one last lesson to teach his rookie.

Just when things were looking grim for both heroes, Ralph reminds Barry of how to attack someone who anticipates movement by reading minds. He tells Barry to focus on something other than his assault on DeVoe while attacking and it works. Barry and Ralph then make quick work of DeVoe and his many clones.

After defeating a horde of DeVoe clones, the numbers become too much for either to withstand. Barry figures out that it’s time to leave and he races off towards the doorway with Ralph in tow. An army of DeVoe clones await them but Barry manages to fight them off and escape with Ralph.

DeVoe’s last act of evil brings forth a speedster to help

Once outside, Ralph regains control of his body, pushing DeVoe’s consciousness out. DeVoe is then left with no other option than to transfer his consciousness to the Thinking Chair. His plans to enact the Enlightenment continue on their own. Marlize figures out how to stop DeVoe but the deadman-switch on DeVoe’s satellites causes them to crash in Central City.

Barry and the team don’t have much time to think out a game plan but Barry does what he does best, run. He runs towards the largest piece of debris with the intent to strike it at full speed. Everyone at Star Labs knows that Barry’s plan will work but it’ll come at the cost of his own life.

As Barry is speeding towards the falling satellite, towards his own doom, a mystery speedster steps in to lend a hand. Were it not for the mystery speedster, Barry would’ve died in a final attempt to save Central City. Luckily, that wasn’t the case.

Who is the new speedster of Central City?

During the finale’s closing segment, Team Flash celebrates their victory. Everyone, including Harrison Wells, gets to rejoice in the victory. Things weren’t looking good for Harry but the calculations formulated by Marlize gave Cisco the info needed to fix him. Harry lost a measure of intelligence during the ordeal but he was happy with the results. Harry even thanked Cisco for giving him a level of balance that he was never able to attain on his own. Unfortunately, the healed Harry decided to return to Earth-2, saying farewell to his comrades in the end.

As for the rest of the celebration, it took place during Cecile and Joe’s party for their new baby girl. With the exception of Harry, everyone showed up to welcome the new addition to the West family, even Wally made an appearance. Of course, they weren’t expecting another new member of the West family to join them.

A knock on the West family home gets everyone to turn their attention towards the visitor. Everyone seems to recognize her from other times she popped up in the city but no one knows who the mystery girl is. It’s when Iris asks her where she got her jacket from that the mystery girl reveals her identity as Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy), Iris and Barry’s daughter from the future. This would all seem like good news, except Nora mentions that she made a huge mistake. Nora doesn’t elaborate any further, though we can probably assume her big mistake was traveling back in time to save Barry. Too bad we won’t find out what Nora was talking about until The Flash Season 5.

The Flash returns later this year for Season 5.
