Ghost, the newest villain of the MCU will make her first appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp where she’ll gain a strange set of abilities. She appears to have a phasing ability but there may be something more transcendent at her power’s core.

While the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp only teased Ghost’s introduction to the MCU, the latest TV spots have given us a few clues to where her origins lie. A montage of shots depicts her being affected by a machine that sends out a strange energy which washes over her. Ghost can then can be seen using her new powers to beat Ant-Man into a wall.

At the same time, the burst of energy appears to have opened a door into the Quantum Realm. One might argue that there’s not enough evidence to conclude as such but with Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfieffer) in the present day setting, someone figured out how to get into the Quantum Realm.

Assuming a breach into the Quantum Realm is open, Ant-Man and the Wasp could put it to use. Ant-Man is rumored to possess the tech that’ll allow the Avengers to venture into different realities in Avengers 4 so perhaps Pym will use the breach to develop a device harnessing the power of the Quantum Realm.

Whatever Ant-Man and the Pym team decide to do with the released quantum energy, it’ll have to be closed at some point. Although, the Quantum Breach could be left open for Ant-Man to return to his own point in time after his adventure in Avengers 4 ends. If he’s using the breach to access other realities like we suspect, it might need to stay happen for Ant-Man to return to his own universe — that is unless he’s destined to wind up in a different universe for good.

Additionally, Ghost could be needed to fully harness the Quantum Realm’s power. Hank Pym wasn’t able to control with his devices, but maybe Ghost can. Since her powers manifest out of her body, she could force the Quantum Realm open with pure will. It’ll take some convincing by Ant-Man but it’s not far-fetched to think a villain can turn over a new leaf; see Loki in Avengers: Infinity War.

If Ghost does agree to help with the Quantum Breach, she could be instrumental in the plan that sees the universe restored to its prior state. Ant-Man can’t do it all on his own, so it makes sense for Ghost and the rest of his team to contribute to the plan.

Ant-Man and the Wasp opens in theaters on July 6, 2018.
