Reverie Season 1, Episode 2 recap: Mara saves Jane Bond
NBC’s Reverie brings in another look at the computer-generated worlds the technology can create. Mara is sent inside a young girl, who has become Jane Bond.
Bond. Jane Bond. That’s the nickname Mara gives the latest victim she needs to save from the computer-generated dream world. After going into her world in Reverie Season 1, Episode 2, Rachel Kauffman becomes a spy with a game that she needs to solve. Meanwhile, Mara has to solve the reason for the spy game to help save Rachel before it’s too late.
Of course, it’s not going to be simple. Along the way, Charlie starts to worry about Mara when he sees her rushing after a young girl in the office. While all those visions may be a side effect, Mara will need to want to stop them.
Here’s your Reverie recap for the episode.

We start with Rachel looking at a photo of the people who are presumably her mom and dad. She’s crying and it looks like she’s mourning the loss of both of them. This photo is important, so pay attention.
After deciding to go into a reverie, she realizes that she’s a spy on a mission. She needs to find Vader–as in Darth Vader? Yes, that’s a running joke throughout the episode. However, on the outside, the action inside has spiked her heart rate. There was an underlying condition and Rachel is now at risk of death. Mara needs to get in and pull Rachel out.
While in, Mara finds herself in the spy game and she needs to figure out what it is that Rachel is looking for. Rachel isn’t willing to trust anything Mara says, though, after being burned so many times in her life. Mara tries to connect through the loss of her sister and niece, but it’s not good enough.

Mara figures out the connection
It turns out the guy Rachel is after is is Vater, not Vader, which is German for father. That photo she was looking at was of her parents. She never got to know her father and her aunt died without telling her the truth. It’s up to Charlie to find someone else (the guy with just a school ring in the photo) to help explain the full story.
Mara follows Rachel to a house, where Vater is waiting for her. This is Rachel’s chance to ask all the questions she has, but of course, he can’t answer. This is just a person in her mind.
Rachel leaves the reverie without the answers she desperately wants, only to find out that Charlie was able to find someone who could help. Her mother had made an arrangement with a friend to have a baby and the father would have nothing to do with them afterward. Now with her father’s address, Rachel is able to see him and get answers straight from him. It turns out that he always hoped this day would come and she gets the chance to meet his family–her family. It’s a beautiful ending to an intense episode.
Mara’s side effects continue
Throughout Reverie, Mara gets flashes of her niece again. Charlie sees Mara during one of the flashes and decides to turn to Paul, who explains that this disassociation is a problem with the newest system. It’s only temporary, as long as Mara puts things away of the person she’s remembering now and takes anti-anxiety meds while she still hears or sees things.
Charlie is worried since Mara has a habit of not doing as asked. Of course, by the end of the episode, we see Mara decide that she isn’t going to let go of the ghosts from the past. She makes sure her niece, Brynn, becomes a more permanent fixture in her world.
Meanwhile, Mara also learns that Dylan was Alexis’ twin brother. Mara isn’t the only one losing herself in memories.
