The quick one-hour episode will lead into the first Eviction Ceremony on Thursday night (July 5).
Big Brother 20 recap
Breaking down what took place before July 4, the last episode revealed who won the trending power. Samantha Bledsoe won the ability to save herself from an eviction. Through the first four weeks, Sam can use the power to come back to the BB20 house if she gets evicted. However, she has to use it before the fourth eviction, otherwise whoever gets sent packing comes right back in the front door.
Sam and Steve Arienta are the two houseguests on the block. Head of Household Tyler Crispen put them there. At the Veto Competition, the three of them will get joined by three more houseguests to play for the Power of Veto. The winner has the potential to really shake things up in the BB20 house.

Previously on Big Brother… (9:00 p.m. ET)
A long introduction started out the July 4 episode, going back to the first nominations and including the budding showmance between Bayleigh Dayton and Chris (Swaggy C) Williams. It also showed Faysal Shafaat getting the Crap App and Hamazon deliveries of vegetarian ham. Sam was shown learning what the trending power would mean for her game. It could certainly shake things up.
Day 9: Power unleashed on BB20 house (9:05 p.m. ET)
The episode got rolling with the announcement that a new power was in play and that the BB App Store had been closed for the week. HOH Tyler was a bit worried about what it might mean for his personal game, while Sam spoke in a Diary Room session about how this may have saved her inside the house. Meanwhile, a lot of debate began taking place between the houseguests about who might have the power. It led to a lot of suspicions and conspiracy theories.
Later, Sam hinted to Tyler that she had a special power. In his own Diary Room session, Tyler talked about how that could be an interesting wrinkle in the game.
Swaggy C scrambles (9:10 p.m. ET)
Swaggy wants Angela Rummans out of the BB20 house. He told Tyler this, hoping that he could make it happen, despite the current nominations. Tyler is in an alliance with Angela, though, so he won’t be going that route. He also confirmed that if either Sam or Steve comes off the block, that Bayleigh is going to become the replacement nominee. That’s something Swaggy C would not want to happen.
A rift in the BB20 house (9:20 p.m. ET)
Bayleigh discovered she could be an option as a replacement nominee, causing stress in that relationship. She broke down a bit and approached Tyler about possibly becoming a pawn on the block. Tyler assured her that she would be safe, even if she ended up on the block. While he requested trust, Bayleigh didn’t really want to hear it.
Player for the first Big Brother 20 Veto Competition (9:27 p.m. ET)
Tyler (HOH) and the two nominees (Sam and Steve), had to be joined by three more houseguests for the Veto Competition. Tyler got houseguest’s choice and picked Swaggy C. Sam drew Scottie Salton. Finally, Steve also got houseguest’s choice, and he picked Faysal.
BB20 Veto Competition (9:36 p.m. ET)
JC Mounduix hosted the Veto Competition, which was a five-stage event. Each round, one houseguest would get eliminated. The first stage forced the six competitors to reach into a huge snake enclosure to retrieve game pieces. A number of them commented on their fears of snakes. Scottie was eliminated.
In stage two, they had to dive into a cold pool to get game pieces from the bottom. Swaggy C lost stage two. In stage three, the houseguests had to remain standing on posts as paintballs were shot at them. Steve lost.
Wrapping up the Power of Veto (9:48 p.m. ET)
For stage four, the final three had to transfer balls from one platform to another, all while getting shocked. Sam, Tyler, and Faysal were the last BB20 cast members standing. It was certainly an interesting segment from the Big Brother 20 July 4 episode recap. Sam and Tyler really disliked the shock collars. Sam was eliminated.
A deal was made. Tyler agreed to throw the competition if Faysal promised to keep nominations the same. Faysal agreed to those terms and ended up winning the final stage to take the Golden Power of Veto.
Veto Ceremony to wrap things up (9:58 p.m. ET)
Heading into the Veto Ceremony, Steve expected to be saved, as he had selected Faysal to play for the Veto. That’s not how it went. But first, another Hamazon delivery showed up for Faysal. He had to eat more vegetarian ham.
Then, Faysal honored his deal with Tyler. Faysal pocketed the Power of Veto, choosing to keep the nominations the same. It left Sam and Steve on the block. At the first Eviction Ceremony, the vote is between Sam and Steve. What will happen next? It’s possible that more Big Brother 20 spoilers could come out on the live feeds. It’s also possible, that Steve is spending his final hours in the BB20 house.
