During the big WB panel in Hall H, DC gave us a look at Shazam! with a new teaser trailer. You won’t want to miss out on this one!

DC movies have been met with plenty of criticism for being too dark. It’s something that really hasn’t worked out critically for them since Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. However, things look like they’re changing with some of the upcoming movies taking a bit of a lighter tone. DC released the trailer for Shazam! and it looks like a fun movie.

Zachary Levi takes the lead as Shazam and Asher Angel plays his Billy Batson counterpart. From what we see in the trailer, both were excellent choices. Angel plays the role of being the new foster kid well and Levi is perfect in his role as an adult child who happens to be a superhero.

We get close to three minutes of footage with the teaser trailer and it’s all wonderful. This movie will be a good start to DC’s 2019 releases.

More from DC Movies

I haven’t taken the time to dive into the character of Shazam in the comics, but he has appeared in various animated shows before. I do know that the character previously went by Captain Marvel, but as you can imagine, Marvel wasn’t too fond of DC having a character with that name. So instead, we now have Shazam.

I’m really looking forward to the next three DC movies with AquamanShazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 coming up. We’ll have to wait and see if this different tone sticks when Joker rolls around, but I have a feeling that one will be an exception.

Shazam! releases in theaters on April 5, 2019.
