Bishop Heahmund heads to England

Jonathan Rhys Meyers sadly wasn’t at the Vikings panel at SDCC 2018, but don’t let that fool you about his character. He’s going to be in the second half of the fifth season and he’s still on Lagertha’s side. Similarly to Ragnar and Athelstan, Lagertha and Heahmund have an understanding of each other and a connection.

Now that Lagertha, Bjorn, and the others have fled Kattegat, they need a place to turn. Bishop Heahmund suggests his home, England. They’re going back to Wessex in search for sanctuary, but will they find it? Also, will Heahmund betray Lagertha and the others? She certainly seems to think so since he’s back in England and it looks like he may turn against him–unless she’s actually talking to Bjorn when she says “I thought you loved me.”

When Lagertha, Bjorn, and the others first arrive, they’re cuffed and taken straight to King Alfred. What is he going to do with them?

There’s some give and take in Vikings Season 5B. King Alfred knows the way to deal with the Viking refugees in a way that his grandfather did. He wants to offer some sort of peace deal, but he wants something in return. Naturally.

Alfred needs to protect England from Ivar’s army. Of course, Ivar also wants to conquer England, so he’s taking an army overseas to meet all his goals at once. Alfred wants to make sure his country is safe and knows turning to Lagertha and her army for help is the best option.

It looks like she agrees, as there are times where we see her in England without cuffs and no longer in rags. She also has a few words for Alfred: his people are turning against him and he needs to do something about it. Will this be another partnership in the way that Ragnar and King Ecbert formed theirs?

Speaking of Lagertha, though, you can’t miss the costume change. Her hair is now white! Is this from shock and stress or is this just Lagertha aging? Katheryn Winnick did share that she sits in makeup for three hours when filming now because of Lagertha’s aging process.
