Max Joseph is leaving Catfish after seven years, is the end of the reality series near?

Best friends Max Joseph and Nev Schulman’s MTV show Catfish premiered nearly seven years ago, shaking up how we view social media. The series exposes online impostors pretending to be someone else to hook a naive victim online. The victim, most of the time, falls in love, but grows suspicious about their long-distance partner — are they really who they say they are?

This is where Nev and Max come in! The co-host visit the victim and begin to do some digging, determined to get to the truth. Catfish‘s first seasons have left many in disbelief about just how sketchy people online should be. And after seven seasons, the series is going strong, which is why Max has decided to step away.

More from Reality TV

In an Instagram post, Max Joseph wrote, “Hey guys, the time has come, sadly, for me to move on from Catfish. Working on this show for the last seven years has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I’ve learned a lot about myself, my country, and human nature in general.”

Knowing how much fans love the duo, Max writes, “Nev and I have become brothers and our bromance has blossomed before your eyes.”

He finishes with, “Thank you for watching, thank you for the love and for the memes.”

Nev Schulman took to Twitter to say goodbye to his co-host:

Max, who’s always been a little tougher on the imposters and definitely more skeptical, is one of the best parts about Catfish! His moments are hilarious and always lighten up the mood, will viewers stop watching the show without him? Probably not. But it does depend on who Nev’s co-host will be next?

Will Nev bring along guest stars as he has in the past? Or will the search for a more permanent co-host begin?

Max last season on Catfish is currently airing Wednesday nights on MTV.
