Reality Cupcakes: Cupsteaks is a genius reflection of the Foxen family’s skills. They have the ability to make tarantulas and roaches look delicious.

Reality Cupcakes finally returns with yet another delectable episode. The amazing cupcakes cause joy, confusion, and appreciation for the Foxen family’s skill. The ladies at Reality Cupcakes do not disappoint. Culinary confusion reigns supreme.

On this episode of Reality Cupcakes, the Foxen family makes some amazing cupcakes for three different clients. Oysters, steak, vegetables, and even bugs are in order. The final works of art are real enough that watching the show should be done on an empty stomach.

Oysters

Ashley Foxen and team work on an order for the Billion Oyster Project (BOP). The BOP is a sustainable oyster project that wants some cupcakes for their event. The team is making two dozen oysters, mussels, shrimp cocktails, and some cocktail sauce to go along with it. Everything rests in a bed of beautiful ice.

Using two different molds, they put in melted white chocolate to start off the oysters and mussels. Ashley’s mother Denise is using chocolate cake and some salted caramel frosting to make the oyster and mussel meat. It’s going to have a “sea salty”-taste. That slimy portion on the outsides of the oysters is replaced by corn syrup. Shrimp are getting orange and white fondant, and the shrimp sauce is tapioca with food dye. Finally, the ice is isomalt.

Needless to say, the customers slurp up the goodies with unhinged jaws.

Steak

The team also got a call from Delmonico’s steakhouse in New York. They want 15 steaks and 90 asparagus cupcakes. The base of the T-bone steak cupcake is a red velvet cake. Buttercream is spread generously to the outside of the steak to represent a slight layer of fat. Brown fondant dusted with powdered sugar (or corn starch?) rounds out the contents.

A little edible painting later and there is a beautifully juicy steak with grill marks. In a lighter moment the ladies grab a torch and each try their hand at browning the steak without burning the kitchen down. To accompany the steak are some taffy asparagus.

The delivery of the cupsteaks is hilarious because it’s a complete surprise. Authentic plates help mask the secretive dessert. It’s such a mind-bender that the guests continued to eat with a fork and knife after multiple bites.

Ewwwwww.

Finally, they head over to the Staten Island Children’s Museum to fool some kids with cupcakes disguised as creepy crawlies (12 cockroaches & 12 tarantulas). The ladies add in some Heath Bar crunch with some caramel on the inside. It’s smart, tricky, and may cause a kid to vomit despite the deliciousness. Both hunger and fear fight for control.

Lindsey says she’s not scared of spiders, and is energetic about decorating the tarantulas. The legs are attached with just enough realism to taste a hairy leg on each bite. Both the tarantulas and roaches are realistic enough to scare more than one kid, but the overall reception is wonderful. Just messy faces and hands everywhere.
