5. Maniac

Releasing: September 21, 2018

Starring: Jonah Hill and Emma Stone

Why it’s worth a watch: Maniac is a show most people don’t have to be sold on. Not only does it have a stellar cast but a unique premise. According to Deadline’s article on it, Maniac follows 10 people as they try a new experimental drug said to cure all the problems in their head.

The two main characters, Annie (Stone) and Owen (Hill) are there for different reasons but are drawn together. For Annie, it’s a way to clear her mind of the poor relationship with her mother and sister. As for Owen, it’s hopefully a solution to cure his schizophrenia. Obviously, things don’t go exactly as planned and the series will explore that.

The cast also features Sally Fields and Justin Theroux. If the premise and cast isn’t enough to make you watch, then nothing else will. Premiering shortly before October, this could end up being an awesome spooky binge to get ready for Halloween.

It’s described as a dark comedy so who knows? Maybe it’ll be in the same vein as Fight Club. Regardless, Maniac has the potential to be one of Netflix’s best original series of 2018.
