Henry Cavill reportedly out as Superman, but stories seemingly conflicting

Henry Cavill is reportedly out as the Man of Steel. However, reports are seemingly conflicting as the studios and Cavill’s manager give their statements.

It appears that Henry Cavill is out of the running as Superman. This was an iconic DC Comics character played by many actors and it looks like a short run for the Mission Impossible: Fallout star. It seems pretty definite as sources in touch with The Hollywood Reporter said that Cavill will be out as the Man of Steel.

It seems that talks regarding his cameo appearance in Shazam! has broken down and the focus switched to a young Supergirl.  This is quite a shocker for many fans.

I even thought Henry Cavill really fit the mantle of the Kryptonian rather well in regards to his appearance…minus the Christopher Reeve curl. That said, going by ages within the DC Comics timeline, it stands to reason that Kal-El will be an infant since Supergirl will be a teenager.

The Internet has been making fun of the situation, citing Marvel Studios’ Thanos as the cause via humorous Infinity Gauntlet “snap” memes, snapping both Ben Affleck and Henry out of existence in the DCEU.

However, shortly after the trade’s report, Warner Bros. made a comment saying “no decisions have been made” regarding future Superman movies, according to CNN.

"“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”"

From the sounds of this statement, is it not even a denial of the trade’s report? They seem to talk about the nature of their relationship with Cavill and do not confirm that they indeed gave him the boot.

Some fan sites are talking about how these reports are rather conflicting, while other fan sites and commentators think that this isn’t a denial of Henry Cavill’s removal. Screen Rant thinks it’s a refute made by Warner Bros. So it would seem that people have their own interpretations.

CNN also mentioned a corroboration with Warner Bros. as Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia gave her take that ran in line with the studios.

On the other hand, according to Newsday, it reported that Warner Bros. is indeed not going with any future Superman films starring Cavill. The Associated Press said their source remained nameless.

"“The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.”"

Henry Cavill, a man that had the honor to don the iconic suit, may still be hanging on to it after all, but what do you make of this he said, she said situation? What do you make of an official trade publication running with this story when the studios give a conflicting report? Is the statement even a denial of the story that ran early in the morning? Will this impact Zack Snyder to helm future DCEU movies?
