Fans have been waiting with baited breath and finally, Marvel has released the first trailer for its next highly anticipated film, Captain Marvel. And it looks just as amazing and epic as you would expect.

Marvel fans may still be recovering from the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but the one bright spot in the film came from a logo in the after-credits scene. It was the logo for Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers and fans have been anxiously waiting to get a look at the superhero in action.

Now that the first trailer has been released we can glimpse Carol Danvers in all her glory. It starts off with Carol literally crashing down to Earth in front of a Blockbuster Video store (Hello the 90s!) and throughout the trailer we see flashes of Carol as a child, as an AirForce cadet and then pilot, and leading her team of Kree warriors. Interestingly, it seems Carol may not remember her childhood as she reveals that she’s having flashes of memory and she states, “I think I had a life here”.

Of course, there’s plenty of teases in the trailer about her powers as well. Not only does she survive crashing down from the sky but we see her jumping on to a moving train and blasting her powers, we see the screen turn upside town as she’s strapped into a machine with energy surging into her, we see what looks like an explosion with blue light emanating out of her, and of course, the final shot where her eyes light up as her aura of power surges around her and she appears to be going Binary. It’s awe-inspiring, to say the least.

One of the biggest takeaways for Marvel fans in this trailer was two key characters that were included. A young Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. We get to see the future leaders of SHIELD in their early days!

We only see a brief glimpse of Coulson but we do see a noticeably younger Nick Fury meet Captain Marvel and it seems that the future director of SHIELD was almost willing to give up until he met her. So basically, we have Carol Danvers to thank for the Avengers being brought together. We can add that to the list of things the people of Earth should be grateful to her for.

Another exciting character revealed in the trailer is Jude Law’s Mar-Vell who will be like a mentor to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. There has not been much revealed yet regarding his character so it’s nice to catch any little glimpse of him! The trailer shows Carol and her team of Kree approaching Mar-Vell as he looks on with what could be surprise or horror. Assuming that these shots are from the same scene, which may not be the case.

We also can’t not mention the moment that had the internet buzzing. The moment when the text on the screen writes “Discover What Makes Her” and then “Her” turns into “A Hero”. Captain Marvel is going to be a hero on par with any of the previous Avengers and indeed is arguably going to be the strongest Avenger. It’s nice to see a female hero headline a huge Marvel movie and the trailer doesn’t let you forget that.

All in all the film promises to be epic (what else would you expect from Marvel?) and it’s clear why Nick Fury would choose to call Carol Danvers in the fight against Thanos.

Captain Marvel is slated to hit theaters March 8, 2019.
