What’s it about?

With 13 seasons, it’s a bit crazy to try to summarize this whole series, but if we’re just talking about the first few season, Supernatural follows two brothers as they use their knowledge of how to hunt all kids of monsters, ghosts and demons to help those who are being haunted and/or hunted. They’re also on a mission to find their father, the person who taught them how to hunt and stole their childhood in the process. The boys travel across the country to go where they’re needed most, all while using their dad’s journal to try to find him. The show evolved as the years went on, expanding its universe to include both hell and heaven, and hundreds of characters.

Why might Shadowhunters fans like it?

If your favorite aspects of Shadowhunters include demon-hunting scenes, parabatai relationships and mystery-solving, Supernatural is a great option while you’re waiting for Shadowhunters season 3B. The human characters don’t have supernatural abilities, but the show does feature episodes with werewolves, demons, vampires, fairies and dozens of other supernatural beings. The show lacks female-led storylines, but there are fan-favorite female characters in later seasons. You’ll be trading in your Ruelle soundtrack for classic Rock and Roll, but with 13 seasons of content, Supernatural *might* help you fill the void until Shadowhunters returns.
