4. Floki offered himself as a sacrifice

There’s been a lot of focus on things going on on Norway. England and Iceland are two locations easy to overlook, but how can we ever forget about Floki?

Floki hasn’t had an easy life. He’s made friends and found enemies. He’s loved and lost and now he’s found a new land, only for his dreams to be destroyed by humans. People are flawed and he forgot or chose not to accept that when it came to creating Iceland.

After deaths at the hands of others, Floki initially tried to appease the Gods with animal sacrifices. A temple was built and he encouraged people to be more religious. But then came along more death and hatred.

The last we saw of Floki, he’d offered himself up as a sacrifice. He knew it would require something big for the Gods to bless the people and the land.

Will he end up sacrificing himself? What happens in Iceland? Hopefully, we’ll find out this second half of the season.

3. Alfred is now king

England has a new king. After the death of his father — well, the man who raised him, because Aethlestan was his father — he and his brother found themselves as potential heirs to the throne. Unlike now, where the crown is passed down based on birthright, it’s up to the Whitten to decide on who would become king.

In a twist of fate, Alfred’s brother stepped aside under pressure from their mother, Judith. Now Alfred is king, but not everyone is happy about that. His brother certainly isn’t happy about giving up the crown that is technically rightfully is. The Whitten wanted him.

With a return to England, we’re going to see more of Alfred. Will Lagatha become like Ragnar was to King Ecbert? Will we see her giving counsel to Alfred, almost like the Uhtred of The Last Kingdom?
