Celebrity Big Brother Season 1 recap: Ross Mathews dominates the game

Celebrity Big Brother Season 1 took place in February 2018. It was a way for CBS to compete with the Winter Olympics on NBC. It ended up becoming a hit with viewers and will return for Season 2 in January 2019.

There were 11 celebrities who participated in Celebrity Big Brother Season 1. They entered the house and played out the game in roughly a month, with the live feeds available for fans as well. CBS just revealed the Season 2 schedule, making it a good time to look back at how the show progressed last winter. It led to a surprising season finale and an unexpected winner of the money.

The 11 celebrities that played in Season 1 were Ariadna Gutierrez, Brandi Glanville, Chuck Liddell, James Maslow, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Mark McGrath, Metta World Peace, Omarosa Manigault, Ross Mathews, and Shannon Elizabeth. It was a mix of genres, to say the least.

As with most seasons, the celebrities entered the house before the episodes started getting shown to the public. This time around, the houseguests were sequestered from the public for a week. There was even a Broadway-style musical number performed by former houseguests to kick off the new season. Then, it was back to business, as the celebrities tried to prove they could handle the reality competition show challenges and strategies.

It became obvious, pretty early, that Ross was going to be a contender to win the show. He put together several strong alliances, including a core four with Marissa, Ariadna, and Brandi that would end up controlling most of the game. It really looked like the show was Ross’s to lose, as the media personality made it all the way to the final two.

Ross won many competitions, controlled most of the votes, and was able to eliminate many targets through the weeks. Unfortunately for him, the celebrity jurors liked Marissa more, naming her the Celebrity Big Brother winner. Maybe it was a bitter jury, but Marissa ended up winning after helping Ross for most of the season.

With the official revelation of Celebrity Big Brother Season 2 taking place this winter, it’s only a matter of time until the new CBB USA cast members are revealed. Hopefully, as many fans have requested, none of the celebrities want to quit. That was a problem with Celebrity Big Brother Season 1, as Keshia Knight Pulliam and Metta World Peace basically quit the game, taking away some of the enjoyment for viewers.
