Iron Man 3 is most definitely a Christmas movie and here are five reasons why…

The holiday season is in full swing! It’s time for Christmas shopping, family time, and watching our favorite Christmas movies. Always on my list, right along with Elf, Home Alone, and The Santa Clause is Iron Man 3. Because while it’s a Marvel movie and part of the amazing Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also works as a Christmas movie.

A movie you watch during the holidays doesn’t have to feature Santa Claus or a Christmas party. To me, and many others, it just needs a few other requirements to be classified as a Christmas movie. It’s not a traditional holiday movie, I’ll give you that much, but it does help kick off the season of giving!

Here are five reasons why Iron Man 3 is most definitely a Christmas movie:

#5 Holiday setting? Check?

Iron Man 3 takes place during the Christmas season. The movie doesn’t only highlight a week or two in December and move on to summer. No, the holidays are front and center from the very beginning with a younger Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) celebrating New Year’s Even back in 1999, to the ending, Stark’s Christmas firework explosions for Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow).

#4 Christmas decor? Check!

Iron Man 3 is overflowing with beautiful Christmas decorations! The Stark mansion is a magical holiday display. Who would’ve thought Tony Stark loved Christmas so much?

More from Marvel Movies

The stockings are hung by the chimney (even one for Jarvis), along with presents, which includes a giant bunny for Pepper.

And while there may not be any snow where Tony Stark lives, when the events take him to Tennessee, we see wreaths, Christmas trees, lights, and a ton of snow!

#3 The message of holiday spirit? Check!

Okay, you may have to work with me here. A plot about a man suffering with PTSD and in a struggling relationship may not seem Christmassy, but there’s still a lesson to be learned here.

In the end, Tony Stark saves the world, he’s caring and selfless (both good traits for the holiday season and year-round, really). He also destroys his most treasured possessions (the Iron Man suits) to make Pepper Potts happy, the one he loves most. Because Christmas isn’t about material possessions, but being with the people we love!

#2 Merry Christmas wishes? Check!

Speaking of making the people you love happy, Tony Stark tells Pepper “Merry Christmas” as he makes his Iron Man suits collide. Stark also gifts his young pal Harley (Ty Simpkins) new tech gear and transformed his entire garage.

Christmas is referenced many times in the movie and even includes one of the best Christmas songs there is…

#1 Christmas music? Check!

A Christmas song is part of the movie! While it may not have made it to the official Iron Man 3 soundtrack that was sold in stores, it is still included in the credits. The song we’re talking about is “Jingle Bells (Bombay Dub Orchestra Remix)” by Joe Williams, which we see Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark dancing to as he tests out new Iron Man armor.

“Blue (Da Ba Dee)” and “Mambo No. 5)” were also featured, but not included in the soundtrack disk.

Next. What to get the Marvel fan on your Christmas list. dark

Bonus reason: If Deadpool can have a Christmas movie, why not Iron Man?

Need we say more? Now go and pop in your Iron Man Blu-ray and enjoy!
