Doctor Who: Apparently the Daleks will appear despite being told otherwise

We’ve long been told that there will be no iconic villains like the Daleks in Doctor Who this season. But now we have reports saying otherwise. So what is it then?

Ever since Chris Chibnail took over as the showrunner for Doctor Who, he has made it very clear about what this new season would be like. One thing, in particular, was the involvement of classic villains and monsters like the Daleks.

We’ve long been told that this season would feature new villains and monsters only, a fact that split the fandom a bit. Some fans loved the idea of a new monster of the week style season, but others felt it wouldn’t quite be Doctor Who without “EXTERMINATE!”

However, now we have reports saying that the Dalek will return in the Doctor Who New Year special, which is replacing the annual Christmas Day special. This report contradicts what has been previously stated, throwing a big load of questions amongst the fandom.

Is this fake news? Are the Dalek coming back? If so should we believe anything else that Chibnail has told us? What is going on?

Let’s take a look.

First up, is it fake news? Maybe, maybe not. The report comes from the Mirror and it is listed as an exclusive, which means they get first dibs at reporting the fact the Dalek would return in the New Year special of Doctor Who. And, because it is an exclusive report, there is no source to link back to because they are the original source. So at first glance, it seems to be legit, and not fake news.

The only problem with the Mirror’s report was they listed it as an exclusive, but then at the very end noted that the BBC declined to comment. Which is odd because if it was an exclusive, surely it would have come from the BBC.

So are the Daleks coming back? Well despite what the Mirror stated at the end I would take this as an accurate report and say yes, the Daleks will be back in the Doctor Who New Years special.

Which turns our attention to Chris Chibnail. If the Daleks are back despite what Chibnail has said in the past, can we trust what he says going forward? Simply put, yes.

The New Year special is just that. A special episode. It’s not a part of the regular Doctor Who season. And if it was, it wouldn’t be the current season we are in, but the next. Therefore Chibnail was being truthful all along.

We should have a much clearer idea come Sunday’s episode. A promo for the New Year will most likely drop and fibgers crossed we will get an idea of who it is The Doctor will go up against.
