#10 Bruce Almighty

Original Release Date: Bruce Almighty was originally released on May 23rd, 2003.

Box Office Earnings: Bruce Almighty had a budget of $81 million dollars and made 85 million dollars its opening weekend. Grossing  $242 million dollars domestically, the film undoubtedly made a splash at the theater.

Critical Acclaim: Bruce Almighty received 49% at Rotten Tomatoes. The film scored only slightly higher with audiences at 57%. Considering how quoted the film still is today, these scores are shocking. Critics say, “Bruce Almighty gets bogged down in treacle.” Perhaps they mean the film takes itself a little too seriously.

About the Role: Steve Carell only plays a minor role in the film as Bruce’s rival Evan Baxter at the news station where they both work. One of Carell’s first films before he found his own niche, Bruce Almighty shows Carell in his element as funny man Evan Baxter. When he blurts out,” The prime minister went to Sweden today and my tiny little nipples went to France,” it makes the movie. Carell has an uncanny ability to enhance any film that he is in no matter how minor the role he plays.

Simply the Best: With a partnership between Carrey and Carell anyone searching for a comedy cannot go wrong watching this movie. There are so many quotes from Carell in that one scene alone that make the role that he plays in this movie worth noting. His role in this film may seem minor, nevertheless Bruce Almighty would not be the movie that it is without Carell. It is a must-see for any of his fans.
