#9 The Hangover

Synopsis: A bachelor party goes hilariously wrong when the groom goes missing after a crazy night out.The Hangover pieces together what little the men remember to track Doug, the groom, and get him to the wedding on time.

Culture impact today: Ten years later, The Hangover is still a lot of fun to watch. Many have attempted to replicate the hangover/failed bachelor party plot, but none have succeed to create something as well done as The Hangover. Two sequels followed, The Hangover Part II and The Hangover Part III, but neither lived up to the magic of the original.

The R rated comedy was put together with a budget of $35 million, and went on to collect over $467.4 million worldwide.

Cast: Ed Asner, Jordan Nagai, Bob Peterson

Synopsis: Up follows elderly widower Carl Fredricksen and boy scout Russell. In an attempt to escape the demolition of his home, Carl ties up thousands of balloons to his house to fly to South America. He promised his late wife, Ellie, they would live there one day. To his surprise, Russell was on Carl’s porch before take off.

Culture impact today: This movie was Pixar’s first Disney Digital 3D release, but that’s not what makes the movie so memorable. It’s the heartwarming story and loving characters. The film is still referenced today, mostly the balloons and the colorful character of Russell.

Up is one of Disney fan’s favorite movies and one of the highest rated by critics at Rotten Tomatoes, with a 98% Fresh score. That’s not its only big victory. According to Box Office Mojo, the movies’s reported budget was $175 million and went on to gather over $735 million worldwide in theaters.

The montage of Carl and his wife Ellie meeting, up until her final days, is one of the most popular of all-time. If you haven’t seen this movie, it will surely tug at your heart strings. Up received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score (it won both).
