4. Maggie is one powerful witch

Considering Maggie was the reluctant witch, I love that she’s become a powerful one. When Alastair attacked — the Charmed Ones now know that he’s their big bad, Parker is his son, and Julia is his ex-wife — it looked like the Vera-Vaughn sisters were never going to get out. However, Maggie managed to come through.

By this point, she’d already been weakened. When the sisters initially went to Dante, Hellcatraz’s gatekeeper, they went to trade the Harbinger, only to find the paint can was empty. Maggie was thrown into Hellcatraz and Macy and Mel had to figure out a way to save her.

While down there, Maggie could talk to Harry. He mentioned that love makes her stronger, and that’s the lesson she took away while Alastair was attacking. She managed to get to her sisters and created a new spell to temporarily scare off Alastair (who can literally take off his face, by the way).

Maggie may have passive powers, but she’s going to be a powerful spell caster. She reminds me a lot of Phoebe from Classic Charmed in this aspect and in a good way.

3. Personal gain spells still have unintended consequences

Maggie chooses to cast a spell to remove her pain. She certainly wouldn’t be the first witch to ever use magic for personal gain, but she didn’t quite read the fine print. It turns out the spell she used would make her powers useless.

That’s not all that surprising. The spell was to remove her feelings and her powers are linked to her feelings. She’s an empath. What I’d be interested in hearing is whether everyone’s powers were dampened while the spell was in use or if there was another personal gain consequence for others.

However, it’s clear that personal gain spells still have consequences. What I enjoyed about this is that the “personal gain” wasn’t pushed onto them. Maggie realized what she did was wrong, but she wasn’t berated by her sisters or Charity for what she did.
