Who lives and who dies in the Vikings Season 5 finale? It was all to play for as Bjorn and Hvitserk led their men and women into battle against Ivar.

We knew that the Vikings Season 5 finale would be epic. Focused mostly on the fight between brothers, it was an episode to feature plenty of death, mayhem, and destruction. With the promise of someone major dying, we waited impatiently to figure out who it would be.

So, what went down in the episode? This recap is going to be slightly different to normal, as it would be impossible to detail every element of the battles for Kattegat. So, I’ll look at the major players, detailing their actions and whether they survived for Vikings Season 6.

Magnus: Dead

Just as Magnus found his faith in Odin, he was struck down. There were two battles for Kattegat and the first one saw Magnus cowering and praying to God. However, he realizes his truth beliefs. God isn’t real and isn’t looking out for him. He turns his faith to Odin.

It’s a bittersweet moment. Just as he’s telling Harald that he believes in the Norse Gods and that he is the son of Ragnar, he’s shot through the back by an arrow. There was nothing anyone could have done.

Harald: Debatable

During the first fight, Harald got the wind knocked out of him, but he survived. He even refused to call a retreat because there was a chance Bjorn would get inside. Considering the two weren’t quite in agreement last week, this was an interesting development.

The issues came in the second battle. After Freydis got Bjorn, Harald, Hvitserk, and others through Ivar’s secret passage, Bjorn was tackled to the ground. There was a moment where it looked like Harald was going to watch Bjorn’s death, but in the end he killed the attacking man and saved Bjorn.

That earned him a sword to the stomach. The last we saw of Harald, he was bleeding from the wound but he was on his feet. Either we’ll see his death play out in the Vikings Season 6 premiere or we’ll just see his body. I just can’t see how he could survive that but then, people have come back from worse.
