4. Who killed the Secretary of Defense?

As soon as the Secretary is willing to go to the President with all the evidence Hynek and Quinn have brought him, he is killed in an explosion at a gas station. The generals lead everyone to believe his death was an act of war from the Russians but we all know that is probably not true.

The questions remains, who was actually responsible for the Secretary’s death? Could the generals have been behind it? I’m doubtful, they act more like errand boys than real masterminds. I think the culprit goes farther up the government hierarchy than them.

3. What role will Susie play next season?

I loved Susie’s character but it pains me to say, she doesn’t serve much of a purpose in season one. Yes, she’s a Russian spy. She and Mimi clearly have some romantic feelings for each other, but Mimi makes it clear to Susie she doesn’t want anything that passed between them to interfere with her marriage.

Susie also frames Donna’s husband as the secret Russian spy in the neighborhood and fingers him as the one who placed a bug in the Hynek household after Mimi begins to suspect. Now Susie is in the clear, (well, maybe, Mimi is clearly still suspicious) but what does that mean for her character? The last we see of her she is meeting up with Quinn for a drink, might she try to gain intel in a more direct way?

Even if she does gain some kind of key evidence, what will she do with it? The story is clearly about the alien angle so I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how the Russian espionage is going to eventually tie in to the main story.
