4. Maria

Maria served as this movie’s red herring. In the beginning, she is shown to be extremely insecure about her marriage, constantly believing her husband is lying and cheating on her. Grace and Roz dismiss her rants as a byproduct of low self-esteem, assuring Natalie that Maria acts like this often. Maria expresses a murderous sentiment herself, wanting to kill the mystery woman she believes her husband, Tony, is sleeping with.

Clearly, we’re supposed to believe Maria is off her rocker and has a killer streak. Except, it turns out, Maria was right all along! Due to her paranoia, she sets up a camera in her home and not only does she catch Grace and Tony in the act, but she is able to capture the final showdown of the film, proving to the police who Grace really is.

3. Natalie

Poor Natalie. Not only does she have to combat postpartum depression and an oblivious husband, but the first friend she meets in her new neighborhood turns out to be a psychotic spree killer. At least Natalie didn’t play the stupid role many women in these movies do. She caught on to the weirdness surrounding Grace, formerly known as Rachel Temple, pretty early on. Plus she totally had Maria’s back when she found out Grace was the woman her husband was having an affair with.

No-nonsense Natalie doesn’t even forgive Grace when she tries to give her a sob story about how desperate she was to be loved by a man. She’s the one who finds Lydia in the basement and gives her a weapon, she also manages to get out of a locked freezer despite suffering from a bullet wound, and comes to Roz’s aide in the middle of their fight with a fire poker in hand!

Before Grace is finally down for the count, Natalie even gets the lights choked out of her. Still, she perseveres and makes it out alive. That is too much for one person to deal with so thank god she got a happy ending!
