The Village recap: 5 major storylines to focus on from the series premiere
Gabe and Lorenzo’s difficult familial relationship
Gabe is the grandson of Lorenzo, a man at the nursing home Sarah works. We start off learning about their strange, infuriating relationship. Gabe finds out his grandfather has stolen his credit card. He doesn’t get angry, just annoyed and tired so it sounds like this sort of activity is just normal and accepted.
Lorenzo, though, is grieving. We’re introduced to finding out his best friend has died, a friend he’s known since he was 22. Not many people can say they have a life-long friend and now Enzo naturally feels the loss.
He’ll quickly cement himself as a friend and supporter of Nick, honored at Nick’s sacrifice for his country. While everyone else says “thank you for your service,” it’s the thanks from other war veterans like Enzo and his other friends that Nick appreciates the most.
Enzo and his friends quickly become the comic relief for the episode, but there’s clearly more to come in terms of deeper storylines.
Patricia’s love for Ron, her secrets of illness
Finally are Ron and Patricia. Ron is the superintendent of the building and excited to have Nick move in. He’s clearly devoted to his wife, but his storyline isn’t the one that becomes a focus in The Village series premiere.
It’s all about Patricia. She learns about her medical issues early in the episode, although we’re left until the end wondering whether it’s good or bad news. By the end, it’s clear she has cancer but she chooses not to tell her husband.
This is going to be the storyline for at least the next episode. The trailer shows that the cancer is back and Ron will find out, upset that she didn’t tell him to help her fight this. At one point, it even looks like she’s considering not even fighting it, which reminds me a lot of A Million Little Things.
