Meet Bane

At Dr. Strange’s lab, Eduardo clings to life while the wacky scientist pumps him full of something at Secretary Walker’s direction. She tells him that he will be reborn as the bane of the unjust, corrupt, and those that oppose them.

Back at the GCPD, Harvey announces joyfully that the generals have made landfall in Gotham and the reunification day has finally arrived! Bruce reports that the filters that Lucius designed are working at full capacity, and there should be no hiccups with the reunification.

They escort the military out to the facility where Lucius has been filtering out the Joker gas, but right in the middle of the inspection, Jim gets the call that Barbara is in labor. He freaks out that he won’t be here to help Bruce and Harvey bring this whole process home and get reunification started, but the two encourage him to go see his newborn baby.

And luckily, the general tells him that the filters have worked and reunification can begin just as he’s about to leave. Unfortunately, the good news ends there as the GCPD and military are ambushed by an 18-wheeler and a ton of knockout gas.

Emerging from the shadows is none other than Eduardo in his fully tricked-out suit. Jim immediately recognizes his old comrade but unfortunately he, the general, and Bruce are tranquilized and kidnapped right in front of the military’s lives.

Jim awakens in an abandoned house, watched by his old friend while Strange’s toxins power his black heart. Eduardo tells Jim that he long ago had to stop being human after his time in the Central American prison. He says Walker has reborn him as the monster Bane. Unlike the army, Bane says, Walker has the unyielding will necessary to bring change and Jim is not going to stop him.

He tells Jim “Eduardo is dead, there is only Bane now.” It’s almost reminiscent of the Ghostbusters line “there is no Dana, only Zuul.”
