4. Jim Valenti sent Kyle messages through code.

Sheriff Valenti gives Kyle the papers containing his father’s original messages, the strange ciphers and symbols lead him to believe his dad might have been trying to send him a message. Alex is able to run the recognition software (kudos to Roswell, New Mexico for the computer usage actually looking cool and not just having Alex type fast on some keys and the answers instantly appear.

Alex is able to scan the material on to his computer and use it as a cipher to distinguish what the different alien symbols mean. Jim was trying to tell Kyle he loved him (awe) and something about an old prison named Caulfield, where he used to work as a corrections officer. As of yet, Kyle doesn’t know exactly what any of it means but it does hint that Jim wasn’t as mentally checked out as he appeared to be.

3. The shooting at the research facility.

Some crazy guy, and former barista, shoots up the research facility where Liz and Kyle work. Luckily, no one dies, but it becomes clear this is another attack from the fourth alien. They were specifically targeting Liz’s lab by setting it on fire and destroying everything in sight, in particular, her alien research.

Max, Liz, and Cam figure this out when they realize the shooter was a barista with epilepsy, meaning he was already prone to blackouts and seizures. He made a perfect target for the murderous alien to utilize to push his agenda forward.
