4. Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko Oyama)

In a way, Lady Deathstrike is sort of like the opposite of Wolverine. She was one of his major villains in the comics. In the X-Men film universe, she appears only in X2, played by Kelly Hu, and is never referred to as Deathstrike. Her backstory is never explored but her creation is implied to be by the hand of William Stryker, who was responsible for creating the process of bonding adamantium to bone in the film universe.

In the comics, it is actually Lady Deathstrike’s father, Lord Dark Wind, who engineered this process and used it on his daughter, with her consent, to turn her into a cyborg. She doesn’t serve much of a purpose in X2 beyond being a brainwashed lackey for Stryker. Although her fight with Wolverine is one of the highlights of the film.

I was always fascinated by her character in the movie. I’ve always wanted to see and learn more about her. Personally, I think villains in the X-Men movies have been one of the weaker aspects. It’d be nice to change things up so the central focus doesn’t always revolve around Erik and Charles. While Wolverine has certainly had his share of time in the spotlight, I still wouldn’t mind seeing more between him and Lady Deathstrike since he is one of her greatest rivals.
