3. Will we see Shira again?

I hope Shira returns next season if only to get some more explanation. But I kind of have a feeling she was more of a plot device to cause drama and threaten Kyle’s surgery more than anything else. In this episode we get confirmation that Shira is indeed an addict. More than that, she may be a dealer as well.

She steals more morphine early on in the episode and then a shady guy comes into the hospital looking for his next hit. Shira promises to meet him in the parking lot later and tries to blow him off as if he’s a crazy ex. Mina doesn’t buy it. She advises Austin to take her off Micah’s surgery.

Shira is then assigned to Kyle’s surgery and she overdoses, fainting and knocking out Kyle’s IV and a whole plethora of other important medical equipment in the process. Kyle crashes and the doctors barely manage to bring him back.

All the while, Shira is carted off to a crash cart of her own. Then she gets arrested! I mean she totally deserves to go to jail and all but it seems like a rushed ending to her storyline. I wonder if Nic will blame her if Kyle is the one who ends up dead? Could we see a confrontation between the two of them in the future?
