Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5: The 5 biggest WTF moments
By Sandy C.
#3 The Mad Queen
Some saw this coming, others were in complete shock. Cersei’s armies drop their swords and the bells begin to ring, surrendering. However, Daenerys huffs and puffs before proceeding to burn the city to the ground, killing innocents mercilessly. Many fans are complaining this ruins Daenerys as a character, but I beg to differ. This has been foreshadowed for several seasons.
Sure, Season 8 has been rushed, but after many seasons foreshadowing this, Daenerys losing her claim to the throne, Jon Snow, Jorah, another dragon, and her best friend Missandei, what did you expect? If only Jon hadn’t rejected Dany’s kiss, Jon’s love was all Dany had left.
#2 Arya Stark
Watching Arya navigate the crumbling streets had us at the edge of our seats. We were mostly worried for her — after being the one who killed the Night King, there was no way we would accept Arya’s death here. Still, she gave us many scares.
It was sad to see her efforts to try to save a mother and daughter be unsuccessful. Arya is crushed, and so are we (and so is the city). As everything is coming to an end, a white horse appears. There has to be a meaning behind this horse, right? We’ll run a few theories on the site at a later time.
#1 Cersei Lannister
Whether you love or hate Cersei, there’s no denying she has been an amazing and powerful villain. Forget how disappointed we are by Jaime for going trying to save Cersei and choosing to die with her instead of staying with Brienne, Cersei deserved a better ending than being crushed by the crumbling castle.
Arya could have killed her, Jaime could have killed her, Drogon should have burned her, literally anything else than what ended up happening to her would have been far better. What a letdown.
Honorable mentions:
- Qyburn’s death
- Grey Worm goes insane
- Clagane Bowl
Game of Thrones Season 8 comes to an end on Sunday, May 19, only on HBO.
