This has to be a bigger play. After all, even Beth knows that Boomer isn’t dead. Well, she knows that the body she buried wasn’t Boomer’s and knows that Boomer is likely somewhere out there. Her sister will have likely told her something by now.
Coupled with the fact that Noah wants to be with Annie and help find them a way out of the mess, there needs to be something going on that doesn’t involve Beth actually going down for murder. Who has the ace up their sleeves?
Then there’s Stan and Ruby. Will all this help them get off? The last we saw, their former lawyer had found out they’d paid with counterfeit money and he was likely going to sue them for his new legal issues.
