4. The two wives begin to bond.

Now that the cats out of the bag, Sylvie and Maggie (Röhm) have to figure out how to move forward. As if being a cheater wasn’t bad enough, Mark is also a criminal. He leaves Maggie without a cent to her name, and Sylvie has nothing to pay for Eve’s rehab.

Sylvie and Maggie sell many of Maggie’s belongings. They manage to make enough cash for Eve’s treatment. The sweetest scene between them is when the two women find out Mark has another piece of property under Maggie’s name.

It’s a ramshackle cabin in the woods. There, Sylvie and Maggie tell stories about their marriages to the same man and Sylvie details her past struggles with alcohol addiction. Amid this horror show, two women forge a surprising bond.

3. Maggie and Sylvie have a blow-out fight.

No friendship comes without its rough patches, particularly when a criminal soon-to-be-ex-husband is involved. Mark officially becomes a fugitive and takes refuge at Sylvie’s home.

He plays the “you’re my real wife” card, multiple times in this film to pit the two women against each other. It works, at first. Sylvie lies to protect Mark, and Maggie gets PISSED. She calls the cops on him.

During Mark’s sentencing, Maggie and Sylvie lay into each other. I mean they take the lowest of low blows in a courtroom bathroom. It is neither’s finest moment. The worst part is, all that anger they’re feeling is meant for Mark and not each other.
