Bob’s Burgers: 5 shows to binge if you’re missing the Belchers

3. Home Movies

Fans of Loren Bouchard from the beginning won’t be surprised to find this show on the list and that’s Home Movies. Co-created by Bouchard and Brendan Small, the series follows our main character, Brendan and his two friends: Melissa and Jason as they create short films with Brendan’s camera. Along the way, they get into hijinks especially involving their soccer coach, Coach McGuirk.

Saved by Adult Swim, Home Movies feels like a sister show to Bob’s Burgers. Not only do they feature some of the same voice actors, but their themes are very close. Brendan is down on his luck and usually end up losing which always happens to Bob. The two shows also have a very similar sense of humor which is no surprise as Loren Bouchard and H. Jon Benjamin both worked as writers for the show.

Both shows are basically about the underdog being the underdog. Brendan never really catches a break and neither does Bob. The two shows also share a unique connection as Brendan and Melissa both appeared in a Season 8 episode, “The Hurt Soccer.” Most fans noticed the reference and it was nice to see Bouchard pay homage to a show that he put a lot of his time into.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of places to watch Home Movies. You can buy episodes on Youtube, Amazon or Google Play. The whole series is also available to buy on Amazon. This is a great show if you’re interested in seeing what else Loren Bouchard has worked on. As far as his shows go, Home Movies is the most similar to Bob’s Burgers.
