All American: 6 shows fans of the CW series need to check out
By Mads Lennon
5. The O.C.
The cast: Peter Gallagher, Kelly Rowan, Benjamin McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Adam Brody, Chris Carmack, Tate Donovan, Melinda Clarke, Rachel Bilson, Alan Dale, Autumn Reeser, and Willa Holland
The story: The O.C. is one of the most popular teen dramas of all time. In the early 2000s, The O.C. was must-watch television alongside another CW series, One Tree Hill. Although The O.C. was a Fox drama, the show resonated profoundly with teenagers all across America.
The series begins with Ryan Atwood, a teen from a broken home, moving in with the Cohens. Sandy and Kirsten decide to take Ryan in after he is kicked out by his mother. He quickly bonds with their son, Seth Cohen, and the two become like brothers throughout the series. Ryan Atwood and Spencer James have some strong similarities.
They both leave behind a rough neighborhood for a new start in the world of the wealthy and elite. However, Spencer’s home life is much different from Ryan’s was. Spencer’s mother, Grace, is a huge part of his life still and an endless pillar of support.
All American is more grounded than The O.C. as well. At least so far. But if you want something similar that trades in the heart and football for ludicrous drama, beautiful beaches, and Mischa Barton, then check this iconic series out.
Where to watch: The entire series is available to stream through Hulu.
