10. The Forest (2016)

Original Release Date: January 8, 2016

Box Office Earnings: The Forest was a moderate success at the box office. It made 37.6 million dollars off of a 10 million dollar budget.

Critical Acclaim: Neither critics nor audiences particularly enjoyed The Forest. It’s not as scary as it wants to be, and many took issue with the film’s trivialization of suicide in Japan. An equal amount of people felt the movie was culturally insensitive.

About the Role: Even though The Forest is not one of Dormer’s better projects, she still gets a chance to show off her range as an actress by playing a pair of twins.

Simply the Best: Dormer plays both Jess and Sara Price. The movie focuses primarily on Jess, as she receives a call stating her sister wandered into the Aokigahara Forest in Japan. The Aokigahara Forest is a popular place for people to commit suicide.

Rather than believe the phone call, Jess decides to investigate for herself. Even though The Forest is not necessarily a good movie, Natalie Dormer is still incredible at playing a dual role. It would be nice to see her do more scary movies in the future as she has a knack for portraying the necessary emotional endurance one needs for darker roles.
