High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was one of the first original shows to premiere on Disney Plus one week ago. If you’ve checked out the two episodes that have been released on the platform so far, you may be wondering where you’ve seen some of the cast members before.
Here’s an in-depth look at which of the new Disney Plus stars you may have already seen on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, ABC, Netflix and many other platforms.
Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo portrays Nini Salazar-Roberts who is cast as Gabriella Montez in the musical, and is the focus of a budding love triangle at Eastside High. Rodrigo began her acting career in the 2015 American Girl film, Grace Stirs Up Success. She went on to star in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark as Paige Olvera from 2016 until this year. She’s also appeared in two Disney Channel Stars shorts, DuckTales Theme Song and Legendary.
Joshua Bassett
Joshua Bassett stars as Ricky Bowen, Nini’s ex-boyfriend who has been cast in the musical as none other than Troy Bolton. Ricky originally had no interest in starring in the musical, but auditioned in an attempt to win Nini back.

Bassett made his first television appearance in Lethal Weapon Season 2, Episode 4 as Will. He also guest starred as Brock in an episode of Nickelodeon’s Game Shakers before portraying Aidan Peters in nine episodes of Disney’s Stuck in the Middle.
Most recently, Bassett guest starred as Linus in two episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. Linus was the drug-addicted boyfriend of Betty in Season 15. Bassett’s character died in Episode 14, “I Want a New Drug.”
Matt Cornett
Matt Cornett plays EJ Caswell, the third member of the aforementioned love triangle. Originally cast as Chad Danforth in the musical, EJ is also the understudy for Troy.
Cornett began his acting career in 2012, starring in a number of shorts and TV series. He appeared in Bella and the Bulldogs as Zach Barnes throughout 2015-16. Cornett has also appeared in other notable shows such as The Middle, Life in Pieces, Game Shakers and The Goldbergs. He will star as Leo Grecco in School for Boys, which recently completed filming.
