Think the Winchester brothers are the only characters to have appeared in every single episode of Supernatural? It’s actually only Sam Winchester!

We know Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are the only two actors to appear in every single episode of Supernatural. However, that doesn’t mean the Winchester brothers have appeared in every single episode. In fact, Sam is the only one to do that, and on Day 15 of the 25 Days of Dean-mas, I’m going to explain how Dean hasn’t been in all episodes but does likely have the most screentime.

And I say “likely” because, honestly, there is no way I can sit through all 315 episodes that have aired so far for this post. But I’ll breakdown why I do believe it is most screentime.

Wait, Jensen Ackles has been in all episodes!

Yes, Ackles certainly has appeared in every single episode of the series. Yet, he’s not been Dean in all episodes. The Supernatural Season 13 finale saw Dean make a deal with Apocalypse Michael. The archangel negated on that deal and took over Dean’s body at the very end of the finale.

In the Season 14 premiere, we saw what the archangel was up to. Michael was in Dean’s body, and we had no trace of Dean at all.

At no point did Dean show up in “Stranger in a Strange World.” You can go back and check it out if you need to. Dean showed up at the very end of “Gods and Monsters,” after Apocalypse Michael had left Dean in search for another vessel temporarily.

Sam has been possessed

We’ve certainly seen Sam possessed by other characters in Supernatural. In fact, Jared Padalecki has had the chance to play Meg, Lucifer, and even a boy who body-swapped with Sam. What we didn’t get was an episode that was solely these characters.

Either at the start or at the end, we saw Padalecki play Sam. There were others where we saw him play a version of Sam, but it was still Sam.

Haven’t there been episodes without Sam?

There have been some Sam-lite episodes, and this is where my thoughts on Dean getting the most screentime come in. During Supernatural Season 4, Dean is sent to the past. However, the very beginning of the episode gives us Sam sneaking off to meet Ruby.

Again, in Supernatural Season 5, Episode 4, Dean heads to the future. Well, it’s an alternate version of the future. While we see Samifer in that time, we get our Sammy at the very end of the episode when Dean realizes that he needs his brother by his side. They’re not each others’ weaknesses.

And so, just as a bit of fun today because it’s Sunday and I know you don’t want to take too much time reading a piece, I share just how Dean Winchester hasn’t been in every episode of Supernatural. Could that change before the end? You never know!
