5. Merry Happy Whatever

Merry Happy Whatever has become my new favorite holiday show this year to watch on Netflix. Holidays can be filled with uncomfortable, awkward, and funny family interactions and Merry Happy Whatever proves it. The Quinn family, like any other family, has secrets and disagreements but they still love each other.

Merry Happy Whatever follows the story of Don, a strong-headed father navigating the stress of the holiday season after his daughter Emmy brings home a new boyfriend, Matt. Emmy and Matt’s relationship is tested after coming home back to Philadelphia when she is offered a new job, and they learn new things about each other.

Emmy’s siblings Kayla, Sean, and Patsy have their own problems as their father meddles in their lives. Patsy wants to have a baby, Sean just lost his job, and Kayla rediscovers her sexuality after her husband asks for a divorce.

One of the funniest moments in the series is the in-law meetups between Matt, Joy, and Todd. When there is a problem or they’re trying to get on the good side of Don, the in-laws form together and help each other get through the tough times. Matt quickly relies on the two of them, especially when deciding to propose to Emmy.

If you want to watch a funny and relatable family, then Merry Happy Whatever is the show to watch on Christmas Day.
