9. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)

Original Release Date: October 18, 2019

Box Office: As a Disney film and a sequel to a successful first movie, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil did pretty well at the box office. It made more than $490.4 million overall, although it didn’t perform quite as well as the first movie.

Critical Acclaim: Like the 2014 film, critics had a lukewarm response to Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. They felt that while the cast and visuals were impressive, the writing didn’t give the characters enough to work with and it left the movie feeling rather lackluster. Audiences, on the other hand, loved it.

About the Role: Returning as Aurora, Elle gets to play a more mature princess. She is now the ruler of the Moors and wife to Prince Phillip.

Simply the Best: The film begins with Maleficent and Aurora planning to celebrate her wedding to Prince Phillip. They meet a new antagonist in the form of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, Queen Ingrith. She is power-hungry, cunning, and intent on destroying the Moors at whatever the cost.

Maleficent must create a new army of defenders to take down the evil Queen for good and protect the people she cares about most in the world. It’s worth watching the movie if only to see the interactions between Pfeiffer, Jolie, and Fanning.
