5. Princess Protection Program

The first DCOM to make the list is one that’s fairly recent in comparison to the others. Either way, it is still over 10 years old now. Released in 2009 and starring Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez as leads, Princess Protection Program was a somewhat unique concept for Disney but it’s basically the fish-out-of-water trope. Regardless, the film is a fun one to look back on.

Princess Protection Program follows Rosa (Demi Lovato), a princess who after her home country is attacked must relocate so she won’t be killed. She is eventually relocated to one of her agent’s family’s home in Louisana. From there, it’s a complete culture shock for Rosa who must learn to fit in and make friends with the other teenager, Carter (Selena Gomez).

Things get off to a rocky start with Carter being embarrassed by Rosa at first until the two forms a friendship and that’s where the action really starts as we get back to the plotline from the beginning.

This film also features a song performed by Gomez and Lovato entitled “One and the Same.” It’s a cute song, talking about friendship and how the two get along despite being different. This film has a strong theme of friendship which made it an easy pick. While it is a little bit far-fetched, it doesn’t go over the deep end. With a runtime of just under an hour and a half, Princess Protection Program could be a good one to start the night off with.
