20. Shameless: Emmy Rossum

Many people were shocked and devastated when Emmy Rossum announced that she wouldn’t be returning for the tenth season of Shameless considering she was essentially the star of the series.

Rossum portrayed the character of Fiona Gallagher and took care of the Gallagher fan for years while Frank Gallagher completely messed up his life and his family’s. The show continued without her, although it was recently announced that the series would end with its eleventh season.

Rossum’s reasons for leaving were perfectly normal, she simply stated that she wanted to move on to explore other career options and Fiona left Chicago for warmer weather after accepting a payout from her business partner.

However, some people wonder if Rossum left the show over a pay dispute since she publically lobbied for a higher paycheck to match that of Macy’s, considering she had equal screentime, if not more, than her co-star.

19. The Walking Dead: Andrew Lincoln

The Walking Dead has seen its fair share of actors come and go over its ten seasons. That makes sense, given it is a zombie apocalypse show. Death is to be expected. However, no one anticipated the lead character, Rick Grimes, to exit.

It became increasingly obvious that it would happen after the show killed off Carl Grimes. A lot of fans felt that the decision “jumped the shark” in a big way, especially as Carl and Rick are still alive in the comic series the show is based on. Like many other celebrities who have starred on the long-running show, Lincoln got tired and the long, hot summers in Atlanta surely weighed on the London-born actor.

However, despite Lincoln’s public exit, his character did not die. Rick was secretly rescued by a mysterious helicopter so that AMC could prepare a series of Rick Grimes films. Not many details have been released about the Grimes solo movie, but in January, Collider gave a brief update saying the new movie would “reveal an expanded, more challenging world.” It’s unclear when the film will release.
