18. Dynasty: Nathalie Kelley, Ana Brenda Contreras, James Mackay & Nicolette Sheridan

A lot of people were shocked when Nathalie Kelly, who played one of the lead characters on the Dynasty reboot, opted not to return to the series for a second season. To make things even more dramatic, Kelley implied that she didn’t necessarily leave the show on good terms since she admitted to being excited about having her life back.

It appeared that she wasn’t happy with the scheduling, or perhaps something might have happened behind-the-scenes. But then at the end of season two, things got even crazier when the second actress to portray Cristal wound up leaving the show. Ana Brenda Contreras left due to personal reasons and was subsequently replaced by Daniella Alonso.

After the Cristal drama, fans expected the casting shake-ups to end but Dynasty was just getting started. James MacKay, who played Steven Carrington, exited the show as part of a supposed creative overhaul.

Based on an Instagram post he made at the time, it didn’t seem like he was expecting the decision, saying, “While Steven had a choice to leave, unfortunately I didn’t.” However, MacKay did return to the show for a couple of episodes and was last seen in the season finale of season two.

The final exit came from Nicolette Sheridan, who joined the show at the end of season one as the manipulative Alexis Carrington. In season two, she was written off by the fifteenth episode after saying she needed to take care of her ailing mother.

Alexis was injured by her son Adam and wound up having facial reconstructive surgery to allow the writers to recast the role. It resulted in a terrifying episode where Liz Gillies portrayed Alexis and then the role was officially recast with Elaine Hendrix.

17. The Affair: Ruth Wilson

Ruth Wilson stunned fans when she left The Affair abruptly without giving any explanation. Her character was killed off and Wilson was repeatedly asked about her exit. She dodged questions for a while, saying she wasn’t allowed to talk about it but that it had nothing to do with payment issues or other jobs.

Eventually, The Hollywood Reporter issued an article about her departure after interviewing several people who were involved with the show. Wilson was under an NDA and unable to say anything but several people who knew what she experienced said she wanted to leave the show for a long time because she was frustrated by the amount of nudity required of her and it felt like a “hostile work environment.”

Several insiders revealed an alleged abuse of power going on behind-the-scenes of the Showtime drama.
