In Into the Arms of Danger, Jenny finds herself on an abandoned road in need of assistance, but can she trust the paramedics?

I have to say, for all the Lifetime movies I’ve watched, Into the Arms of Danger was unexpectedly wild. What started as a typical story about a mother and daughter coping with the loss of a father, evolved into a semi-incestual, hillbilly kidnapping story.

Jenny (AlexAnn Hopkins) drives to a concert at night in a town two hours away, only to have her car breakdown in the process. Two helpful “paramedics” arrive, but by the time Jenny realizes they are kidnappers masquerading as assistance, it is too late. She winds up in Momma’s (Cathy Moriarty) captivity.

Momma’s sons, Guy and Clyde, make a habit out of kidnapping young women to replace their “lost” sister, Lizzie. Momma goes “dark,” when she doesn’t have her family together, hence why they find it necessary to keep young girls funneling into the home against their will.

The following list recaps the four craziest moments from the movie.

4. Jenny and Guy kiss.

In one of the film’s most cringeworthy moments, Guy and Jenny start making out in the middle of the kidnapping scenario. To be fair to Jenny, she seemed to think it would be a smart way to get Guy on her side. It might have worked, too, but Momma caught them in action.

She went all Flowers in the Attic—“oh my god, that’s incest!”—on the two of them and threatened to throw Guy into the dreaded basement.

3. Laura goes into full-on Mama bear-mode while looking for Jenny.

Into the Arms of Danger presents obvious parallels between Laura’s overprotectiveness toward Jenny and Momma’s obsession with keeping her own family “safe,” even at the cost of grievous injury and death. I’ll take Laura’s smothering any day, thank you.

It comes in handy when she is determined to find Jenny even when the police show their incompetency (as is usual of all Lifetime cops).

Jenny is clever enough to tip off her mother by saying, “Say hi to dad,” on a phone call, so Laura knows that her daughter is in danger. When she shows up with a gun and threatens everyone in the redneck enclave, you know it’s about to get serious.

2. Jenny finds Lizzie’s dead body.

It became apparent quickly that Lizzie probably didn’t “run away,” as Momma claimed. As if being locked inside of a dark, dusty basement wasn’t bad enough, Jenny discovered she had a corpse as a roommate down there.

Finding Lizzie does have its advantages, Jenny removes her necklace and shows it to Guy as proof that Momma is completely off her rocker. Guy finally understands how messed up his entire living situation is, and takes a stand against his mother to help save Jenny and her mom.

1. Jenny gives Clyde a taste of his own medicine.

One of the most twisted parts of Into the Arms of Danger is that Clyde forces Jenny to wear a shock collar like some kind of rabid animal. During the climactic fight scene, Jenny forces the collar onto Clyde and cranks up the voltage to 11, leaving him to writhe on the ground.

Considering he tried to assault Jenny multiple times in the film and was just as evil as Momma, it was more than a little gratifying to see him get a taste of his own medicine.
